Nigeria is preparing to seek Chinese financing, technology and investment partnerships for oil and gas projects at an energy exhibition scheduled for September in Dongying, China.
A Nigerian delegation comprising petroleum regulators, government institutions, state representatives and indigenous oil and gas companies is expected to participate in the China Dongying International Petroleum and Petrochemical Equipment and Technology Exhibition, known as CDYPE 2026, from September 28 to 30.
According to a statement from Oraso Consulting Ltd, which is coordinating the Nigerian delegation, the country plans to present commercially viable projects that are ready for financing or implementation to Chinese financiers, engineering companies, equipment manufacturers and potential investors.
The planned engagements will focus on long-term project finance, engineering, procurement and construction financing, joint ventures and equity partnerships, as well as oilfield development and gas monetisation.
Nigeria is also expected to seek investment and technical partnerships for projects in gas processing, modular refining, petrochemicals and pipeline infrastructure.
A Nigeria-China Country Focused Session is planned as part of the exhibition, providing project owners and institutions with an opportunity to engage directly with potential Chinese partners.
The approach is aimed at bringing regulators and project owners into the same discussions, allowing prospective investors to seek regulatory clarification while assessing specific projects and their financing requirements.
The exhibition is expected to attract more than 500 exhibitors and over 20,000 visitors, with major Chinese energy companies, including Sinopec, China National Petroleum Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and PipeChina, expected to participate.
For Nigerian indigenous operators, the mission could provide another route to securing long-term capital and technical partnerships for projects that require financing beyond domestic sources.
However, the success of the mission will ultimately depend on whether the meetings in Dongying produce concrete financing agreements and partnerships. Oraso Consulting said Nigerian project sponsors would be matched with suitable Chinese counterparties for further discussions after the exhibition.
The planned China engagement comes as Nigeria continues to seek more investment to develop its oil and gas resources, particularly in areas requiring significant capital, technology and infrastructure.
